Rhonda Rodriguez ($975) (center of 1st photo)
King Science and Technology Magnet
Rhonda Rodriguez' proposal was on consumables for several Science-Tech Modules. These modules, such as Postively Plantastic, Plants & Pollination, and Soils & Environmental Issues require a great deal of consumables, from potting soil to bulb plants, to clay pots and fertilizer. This grant covers those consumables for grades 5-8.
Yvette McCulley ($1000) (second from right of 1st photo, with Ms. Kristine Spath)
King Science & Technology Magnet
Yvette McCulley's proposal was for consumables for student-led conferences. The student's primary learning tools are lab notebooks and manipulatives. King Science and Technology Magnet focuses on students learning by doing, rather than reading about how to do science. This grant covers the binders and consumables for the school year.
Elaine Westbrook ($960) (accepted by Mr. Gene Haynes, Principal - 2nd photo)
Omaha North High School
Elaine Westbrook's proposal was for 6 Altra Relectance Spectrometers to support curricular goals for both her AP environmental science class and her 5 honor biology classes. On April 3rd, she will be presenting at the National Science Teachers Association conference in Dallas, Texas. Her presentation is called "Eyes in the Sky: Awesome Tools for Teaching Environmental Remote Sensing." The spectrometers will be used in the lab activities she and her co-presenter have planned for the participants. They will be modeling successful classroom labs that help build a deeper understanding of remote sensing and the process of photosynthesis.
Alyssia Wilkinson ($1600) (with Mr. David Alati, Principal - 3rd photo)
Bryan Middle School
Alyssia Wilkinson's proposal was for a Presentation Projector to be used by all 7 science teachers at Bryan Middle School. They had adopted a new textbook with virtual labs and CR-ROM labs. They also use the Internet as a resource for many of their units. Having a projector available allows them to marry the textbook lessons with lab activities.
