Beginning October 1, 2006, AFCEA is proud to
introduce a new program that will recognize the accomplishments of its members
who recruit and help to retain new members for the Association.
Taking the place of the dormant 5-Star program,
which had recognized excellence in individual member recruiting, this new award
program adds an additional level of recognition for individuals who recruit
members who renew their memberships.
Individuals who recruit 5 new members will receive
a special AFCEA lapel pin. Additional lapel pins will be presented when individuals
have recruited 25 and 100 members. Individuals will receive a special AFCEA
coin when 5 of their recruited members renew their membership. Additional coins
will be presented when individuals reach 25 and 100 renewals. 3 year and Life
Members who are recruited automatically count as being both recruited and retained.
The highest level of this program, 100 members
recruited and 100 members retained, will be named the Bing Ates Award, in honor
of one of AFCEA's most prolific individual member recruiters (COL Ellis R. "Bing"
Ates, USA Ret.). For more information on Bing Ates, please read the article
in this month's Signal Connections, available here.
The program will be run through the local chapters.
On a quarterly basis, AFCEA Headquarters will run a report determining who,
if anyone, from a given chapter has reached a new milestone in recruiting and/or
retention. A copy of the report, along with the correct number of pins and/or
coins, will be mailed to the Chapter President for distribution to the honorees
at the next appropriate chapter event. The first reports will be run on or around
January 1, 2007.
To get credit for recruiting a new member, the
individual's name must appear on the "sponsored by" line of the membership
application. Everyone who is actively recruiting new members should stress the
importance of including the name in that "sponsored by" field. It
is not necessary to include a sponsor's name when renewing, as that information
has already been logged.
Because this is a brand new program, we are going
to start fresh on October 1, only counting the members who have been recruited
and retained from that day forward.
